What You Can Do For Your Child’s Development

Helping Your Child Flourish

Certainly, there are stories of the “rags-to-riches” variety where a child from a broken home somehow goes on to be mayor or found a multi-million dollar business. These are rarities. For most people in most situations, poor living circumstances lead to long-term hardship.

That said, even in the poorest conditions, there are ways a mother can help her child flourish. For single mothers, there are grants and governmental support options available.

However, you may not have to go so far as to lean into a government program for best results. Following we’ll briefly explore three things that will be key in your child’s development.

1. Be There As Continuously as Possible

Especially as regards newborns, it’s integral for mothers to be there as continuously as possible. New babies physically, emotionally, and even spiritually need their mothers. Until your baby is about elementary school age, you should be as available as is feasibly possible.

For feeding, for emotional support, for warmth, for mental development, and more, there’s nothing like a mother’s love being present on a continuous basis.

2. Always Breastfeed Over Using Formula

If you’re having trouble nursing your newborn, consider these breastfeeding positions for newborn nourishment. Sometimes the issue with clogged milk ducts is rooted in latch position. A poor latch causes discomfort and can contort your body in a way that results in blockages that can become inflamed, leading to mastitis.

That said, paps get sore even with good positions. Your nipples will toughen up, but it can take time. Should you use a formula? Not if you can avoid it; most the nutrients are homogenized out of mass-produced formula.

You should breastfeed, but it’s painful, so now what? Well, when you express, pump the milk, store it in the fridge, warm it up when baby is hungry. Keep that which won’t fit in the fridge in the freezer, it’ll last up to twelve months—that said, use it before then if at all possible.

3. Get Help From Those Who Know Better

Parental support groups, friends, and family represent three regions of expertise that are fundamental to your success as a mother. You need to have all resources available for your child’s development. You don’t know everything, and there’s always room for improvement.

Plus, there are motherhood “hacks” that can save you time and emotion, allowing you to better perform maternal duties. The “baby books” won’t be as valuable to you as support groups, friends, and family who know you, know your baby, know their own experiences, and know which tips or tricks will best help you as a new mom.

Setting Your Child Up For Success Over the Long-Term

Get experience from those who have gone before you, and from experts. Breastfeed your newborn whenever possible, avoid formula as possible, and be there as much as you can for your baby. Such tips will enhance your abilities as a mother, and your child’s healthy development over the long-term.
